Avukana Buddha Statue_Ballpoint Pen

The Avukana Buddha Statue is a 5th century stone sculpture, located in the village of Avukana in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It has been entirely carved out of a single large granite rock face, but is not completely separated. A narrow strip of rock has been left at the back of the statue, connecting it to the rock face and supporting it. The statue alone is 38 feet 10 inches (11.84 m) in height, and with the pedestal the total height of the Avukana statue reaches 42 feet (13 m). In the past, it had been located within a large image house or shrine that had been made of brick and stone, of which parts of the walls still remain.

Avukana statue is considered to be an engineering marvel attributed to the capabilities of the ancient Sinhalese craftsmen who lived more than 1,500 years ago, and has now become a popular tourist attraction in Sri Lanka.

This artwork is done 100% using 3 colour ball-point pens (black, brown & blue) on an ordinary photo copy paper, over a period of 4-5 weeks, spending only 30-40 min per day. Original size is about 50% of a A4.
